Japanzon Asakusa Store — hours, access and what we sell

SHOP INFORMATION ・ ASAKUSA, TOKYO

Inside the shop: plush shelves from floor to ceiling and large soft toys

Japanzon is a toy and game shop in Asakusa, Tokyo. One shop, at street level, four minutes on foot from the Kaminarimon. It is run by a Frenchman who came to Japan for Japanese toys and games and stayed. Open every day of the year.

Opening hours

Wednesday and Sunday are also the days when Chinese and Spanish are spoken at the counter, on top of Japanese, English and French.

Finding us

Stand at the Kaminarimon / 雷門, the big red gate of Senso-ji, with the gate behind you. Walk about 280 metres along Orange Street / オレンジ通り. It is flat the whole way and takes about four minutes. We are on the ground floor, directly opposite Asakusa Public Hall / 浅草公会堂 — the large modern building with the glass front.

Asakusa Station is also four minutes away.

What you will see before the sign: about fifty capsule toy machines lined up on the pavement in front of the shop. If you are walking past a wall of capsule machines, you have arrived.

The capsule machines are outside, 24 hours a day

The machines stand on the pavement, facing the street, and they are available 24 hours a day, every day — before we open, after we close, on the day we are shut. You do not have to come into the shop to use them: you can stop for two minutes on your way to or from the temple, with your hands full. They hold Japanese anime and video game characters, animals, miniatures and small everyday objects, and the contents change, so the wall is never quite the same twice.

What is inside

New and second-hand sit side by side on the same shelves, the way a Japanese hobby shop normally works.

Second-hand condition grades

Every second-hand item is checked by hand and given a grade. The letter is written at the start of the item name, in the shop and online.

The second-hand stock depends on what people bring us, so we cannot promise that one particular item will be on the shelf on a given day. If you are looking for something specific, call us before you come: 03-5830-3421.
